June 08, 2010 –Telenor company in Serbia has become part of 1GOAL global campaign, launched by the Global Education Campaign and FIFA, aiming to promote the idea on accessibility of education for all children and adults.

Mobile operators around the world, including Telenor Group, are to send more than a billion text messages and offer a possibility to support the 1GOAL project to their users, before and during the World Cup in South Africa, which is to take place from June 11- July 11.

- It is believed that ca 72m children around the globe are not getting any kind of education at all. 1GOAL campaign will serve to raise collective voice by calling on world leaders to promise they will provide education for everyone by 2015. By sending a free text message to our users, and encouraging them to support this campaign, we will prove that mobile phones represent a communication tool with actual potential to reach the entire world, says John Fredrik Baksaas, the president and the CEO of Telenor Group.

Registrations for 1GOAL mobile campaign will be presented in the form of a petition to world leaders at the Education Summit, scheduled to take place in the second half of this year. All interested parties can express their support for the campaign by visiting Telenor’s Web page www.telenor.rs/info/1GOAL, or the WAP address wap.telenor.rs/1goal.

- One needs to have a strong desire and strength in order to achieve the targeted goal in life. Our joint task in South Africa is to be among those who will support 1GOAL campaign, in its endeavours to enable the opportunity to attend school to every child in the world. Apart from wishes to play good matches and achieve good results, let this World Cup in South Africa be remembered as an event which has helped children to get their chance to made their dreams come true through education, says Serbia Manager Radomir Antić. Apart from our head coach, this campaign in Serbia is supported by Nikola Žigić and Marko Pantelić.

During the year 2000, 164 world governments defined poverty ending as one of major goals, to be achieved by providing education for all. Since then, many countries have abolished school fees, spending was increased by US$4bn and an extra 40m children are now going to school. However, 72 m children are still denied the chance to go to school, and this year 1GOAL campaign invests efforts with its partners to change this situation. The World Cup host is also to design a map marking the way to make education accessible.

1GOAL’s aim is to gather additional funds provided by the rich and developing countries, in order to enable access to education to every child. According to estimations, we need US16bn per year to make universal education reality. At the moment, US$4bn are spent only on primary schooling, explains Jordan’s Queen Rania.

1GOAL campaign has so far been supported by 8m people, including Jordan’s Queen Rania, FIFA’s president Joseph S. Battler, actress Jessica Alba, football stars Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Michael Essien (Chelsey), Alessandro Del Piero (Juventus), Zinedine Zidane, Marcel Desailly, England Manager Fabio Capello, football clubs around the world, world officials, organizations and individuals from over 100 countries.
