ABOUT TELENOR NEWS NEWS AND PRESS RELEASES TELENOR HOST OF THE CONFERENCE ON PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION
Telenor Host of the Conference on Personal Data Protection organised by the Office of the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance
December 2, 2009 – Information society - definitely, but without personal data protection - certainly not, is the starting point of an expert discussion organised by the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, supported by Telenor, organised at the premises of this mobile operator today.
The expert discussion titled “Personal Data Protection in Electronic Communications - Operators’ Obligations and Responsibilities” has included the Minister of Telecommunications and Information Society, Jasna Matić, Director of the Serbian Telecommunications Agency (Ratel), Milan Janković, directors and representatives of most of the leading operators and providers in the country, as well as legal experts and representatives of state bodies and the NGO sector.
Commissioner for Information of Public Importance Rodoljub Šabić has said that it is encouraging that operators have a clear idea of potential problems, and are willing to offer solutions. “I think that a similar level of willingness we are yet to provide in most state bodies. In all areas, particularly in the especially delicate area of electronic communications, the state should provide solutions which will respond to issues and risks in a discourse consisting of top service quality, needs of the state security and fight against crime, protection of privacy and other human rights. The latter has to be and remain most important,” said he.
The role of Internet and mobile providers, which enable fast, accessible and mass transfer of information, including personal data, is highly important in this discussion. “Telenor aims to contribute to raising awareness among our subscribers in regard to the fact that their personal data are their property, and, as a mobile and Internet provider, offer to them protection of those rights, as defined by the law and the state. Therefore, it is necessary that we obtain clear instructions on a volume, methods and restrictions of those protection measures,” said Goran Vasić, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer in Telenor.
