Telenor foundation established the professor dr Ilija Stojanović award

The Day of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade marked by granting this award as well

Belgrade, December 15, 2007 – At the ceremony marking the Day of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade today, an award named after Professor Dr Ilija Stojanović has been granted for the first time. The award has been established this year by the Telenor Foundation, honouring our most prominent expert in the area of telecommunications. 

The “Professor Dr Ilija Stojanović” award  is granted in several categories o most successful students, young scientists and researchers for their contribution in the area of telecommunications. In accordance with its values, the Telenor Foundation has established this award to provide young generations with support and help them continue on a road to scientific and creative work (following the example of Professor Stojanović). 

In the category of the best graduate engineer from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade in the school year 2006-2007 at the Telecommunications Department, Radošević Andreja, with the average grade of 9.80 has been granted a financial award.  

This year, the following five best papers of young authors from two conferences have received financial awards:- Goran T. Đorđević and co-authors, for a paper from the ETRAN 2007 Conference,  Irregular LDPC Codes for Transmission Over Non-regenerative Non-linear Satellite System in the Presence of Co-channel Interferences- Zoran Čiča, for a paper from the ETRAN 2007 Conference, Improvements of Network Performance by Applying Traffic Modelling - Stevan Marinković, Nebojša Ćirović and Dragoljub Petrović, for a paper from the TELFOR 2007 Conference, FPGA Implementation of 16-bit RISC Processors with Von Neumann Architecture- Luka Milinković, for a paper from the TELFOR 2007 Conference, Code Based on Text Statistical Features - Nevena Todorović, for a paper from the TELFOR 2007 Conference, Implementation of IIR Filter in Fixed Point Arithmetics.

Professor Dr Ilija Stojanović, a member of the Academy of Science and Arts, was the author of modern theoretical and practical telecommunications in the former SFRY and present Serbia. He was the founder of the Telecommunications Department at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade, where he launched his career, and was a professor to nearly all generations of today’s experienced telecommunications engineers who are the leaders in the sector.  

Since the launch of its operations in Serbia, Telenor has been strongly supported by professor Stojanović, who has invested his knowledge and experience into the development of the company and its values. Although long retired, he spent his last working day in Telenor, and therefore this award has a special value both for young people who it is established for and all the employees of Telenor.
