Telenor Foundation buys teddy bear on wheels
"Silent Society" had more than 10,000 visitors, ultimate objective is to provide ramps for persons with disabilities
November 06, 2008 – The Telenor Foundation has purchased the teddy bear on wheels, the symbol of the “Silent Society” exhibition, dedicated to children with disabilities.
The bear, more than two metres high, is currently exhibited in the hallway of the Telenor office building in Belgrade. Funds from its sale and future purchases of new exhibits will be allocated for providing ramps at public places for children and adults in wheelchairs.
Visited by more than 10,000 citizens in 12 days, the exhibition is the work of artist Mladen Hrvanović. A casual encounter with a boy in a wheelchair inspired Hrvanović to use his art to draw public attention to the fact that there are children with disabilities in our midst and that they must not live in silence and be socially invisible. The teddy bear on wheels, which is unable to negotiate any physical obstacle unassisted, represents their everyday life.
The “Silent Society” project will be continued with a cartoon where the main character is the teddy bear on wheels, and the design of a Web portal where citizens can be informed and educated on the position of persons with disabilities.
