Telenor establishes foundation in Serbia
Telenor Foundation pledges support to effective, sustainable and developmental projects across Serbia
April 23, 2007 – Telenor announced the official launch of the Telenor Foundation today, thus initiating the implementation of its unique corporate social responsibility concept, successfully conducted by Telenor Group across the world.
As the largest foreign investor in Serbia, Telenor continues to invest in Serbia through the Foundation, this time by supporting development of the country’s social potential. Through its social engagement, Telenor wishes to respond to difficulties our society encounters.
Initially, the Foundation will be focused on projects and activities offering efficient, sustainable and developmental solutions in the area of education and youth, culture and art, as well as assistance to vulnerable groups. The Foundation will always invest efforts in recognising problems that systematically affect those areas. It will implement projects across Serbia, with a specific focus on poor local communities and young people.
Members of the top management will personally participate in projects and monitor their progress. Furthermore, the Foundation will encourage voluntary participation of its employees, who will contribute to the goals of the Foundation by offering personal example.
The Telenor Foundation presented the members of the Managing Board: Mr Stein-Erik Vellan, the CEO of Telenor d.o.o. and the chairman, HE Hans Ola Urstad, ambassador and the head of the OECD Mission in Serbia, Ms Nevena Vuckovic Sahovic, a human rights lawyer and an expert of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, Prof. Branko Kovacevic, head of the University of Belgrade, and Ms Sandra Stajner, chief communications officer of Telenor d.o.o. Ana Krstic, the public and corporate affairs manager of Telenor d.o.o., will hold the position of the manager of the Telenor Foundation.
“Through this initiative, Telenor in Serbia wishes to justify trust of both its subscribers and the whole community. Corporate social responsibility is one of key strategic priorities of Telenor Group in any new market, because we believe that success is measured not only by good business results but also by the responsibility towards the community in which we operate,“ Vellan said.
