Telenor continues cooperation with the Olympic Committee of Serbia

The Company is general sponsor of the Olympic Team at the coming Winter and Summer Olympic Games

September 18, 2009 – Today Telenor has renewed its general sponsorship of all activities of the Serbian Olympic Committee and the Olympic team which will represent Serbia at all important sports events in the next three years, Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver in 2010 and the jubilee 30th Summer Games in London in 2012.

The Contract was signed by Vlade Divac, Chairman of the Serbian Olympic Committee, and Kjell-Morten Johnsen, CEO of Telenor Serbia.

“By signing the Contract with Telenor, the Olympic Committee has embarked upon forming its ‘Together to London’ sponsor pool. We see this cooperation as a partnership and the results are a shared success. Successful participation of the Olympic Team at the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver in 2010 and Summer Olympic Games in London in 2012 greatly depends on the support of the sponsoring team,” says Divac.

Telenor thereby continues cooperation with the Serbian Olympic Committee launched in 2007, when the Company became the general sponsor of the Olympic Team representing the country in Beijing.

“Last year the Serbian team won three medals, one silver and two bronze. These decorations fill one with a feeling of satisfaction and pride, but we also see it as an obligation to continue to support athletes, together with the Serbian Olympic Committee, in their preparations for the competitions in Vancouver and London.  Telenor is continuing to support the development of sports in the spirit of Olympic values: friendship, excellence and fair play”, said Kjell-Morten Johnsen, CEO of Telenor Serbia.

Last year’s Beijing Games were Serbia’s second as an independent state. At the 1912 Stockholm Games, the Kingdom of Serbia was represented by two athletes, a sprinter and a marathon runner. Apart from the Government, the main sponsor was the Serbian Tram Society.

The new Olympic cycle is in the sign of number 100: next year the Serbian Olympic Committee will celebrate its 100th anniversary, and in London the Serbian Olympic team will mark exactly 100 years since its first games. There are great prospects for the London team to win the 100th medal, two more than they own at present.

In Beijing, the Serbian team was made of 92 athletes competing in 11 disciplines, eight individual and three team sports. In addition to the general sponsorship of the Team, during the preparations for the 2008 Olympic Games Telenor supported another eight athletes.
