ABOUT TELENOR NEWS NEWS AND PRESS RELEASES STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE NATIONAL THEATRE AND THE TELENOR FOUNDATION ESTABLISHED
Strategic partnership between the national theatre and the Telenor foundation established
October 27, 2011 – Owing to strategic cooperation between the National Theatre and the Telenor Foundation, one of the most prominent cultural institutions in Serbia is now available to persons with disabilities. One of the objectives of this partnership is also the promotion of artists and theatre professionals, who are not on stage and under lights, but are equally important.
The Protocol on Cooperation has been inked by Mr Božidar Đurović, Manager of the National Theatre in Belgrade, and Mr Kjell-Morten Johnsen, CEO of Telenor in Serbia and Chairman of the Board of Directors in the Telenor Foundation.
“Quality, specific aim-driven and socially responsible support of the Telenor Foundation means a lot to us, since it is important for the National Theatre, as a symbol of cultural identity of Serbia, to be available to all theatre art lovers, including our fellow citizens with disabilities,” says Božidar Đurović, Manager of the National Theatre in Belgrade.
“We are very proud of cooperation with one of the most significant cultural institutions in the country. The partnership has been established following a model of the long-standing cooperation of Telenor with the National Theatre in Oslo and the Bolshoi Theatre in Russia. The Telenor Foundation, which invests in the development of cultural and artistic production since its establishment, wishes to promote and preserve the Serbian national treasure with this partnership as well,” says Kjell-Morten Johnsen, CEO of Telenor in Serbia.
The first joint project was implemented this June when, owing to the support of the Foundation, the Grand Stage obtained the audio description equipment. As a result, the National Theatre has become the first theatre in the region where persons with impaired vision can follow theatre plays. Using wireless headphones, visitors with impaired hearing will receive precise explanations of developments and sound at the stage. The Telenor Foundation will help install these devices at the “Raša Plaović” Stage as well. During the reconstruction of this Stage, toilets adjusted to persons with disabilities will also be constructed.
Within its cooperation with the National Theatre, the Telenor Foundation will support the production of a photo-monograph of the Theatre, which will present artists of this institution in a unique manner and thus contribute to the improvement and enrichment of the cultural production of the National Theatre.
