Sixth Belgrade Internet Park Opened - Free Telenor Internet On The Kalemegdan Fortress As Well
August 27, 2009 – The largest city park got access to the free Telenor Internet, as a result of cooperation of Telenor and the Public Enterprise “Belgrade Fortress“. This is the sixth Internet park in Belgrade, opened after the park near Vuk’s Monument, Spring Park, Skatepark, Park in Student Campus, and Students’ Park.
“Being aware of the growing necessity for mobile Internet, we decided to provide, in cooperation with Telenor, another attraction for all generations, in the Kalemegdan Park, one of the most visited locations in the city. Kalemegdan Park and the Belgrade Fortress, as central tourist locations of our city, a place where both citizens of Belgrade and tourists are gathering, represent a suitable space for realisation of such a project. We hope that good weather in fall will enable everyone to use the Internet in the park as long as possible. Cooperation with Telenor will be continued with first sunny days in 2010“, said mr Ivana Lučić Todosić, the Director of the Belgrade Fortress.
The first Internet Park in Serbia was Students’ Park, in which Telenor provided use of the fast Internet in open space free- of-charge for three months last year.
Telenor has designed all parks, provided the equipment and will take care of its maintenance.
The City of Belgrade, supported by the Secretariat for Utilities and Housing Services, “Zelenilo Beograd” public utility company, and the Energy Administration, will provide light systems and public space maintenance services for the parks.
Beside the six parks in Belgrade, free Internet can also be used in the Danube Park in Novi Sad, Great Park in Kragujevac, Residence of Bishop Nikolaj Park in Kraljevo, St. Sava Park in Niš, Blue Fountain Park in Subotica and in the park near the Desanka Maksimović Square in Valjevo.
Opening of the Internet Parks across Serbia facilitates the development of IT literacy and Internet accessibility to the public. Telenor 3G signal, which provides fast Internet, reaches nearly 45% of the population in Serbia in more than 200 cities and towns.
Telenor is seventh largest world mobile operator in the world with 168 million clients, 2.831 million of which are in Serbia. This company has a reputation of an innovator in domain of mobile telephony. After the investment worth EUR1.513bn, which was pronounced for the highest individual investment in the Southeast Europe, Telenor has officially been operating in Serbia since September 1, 2006.
