Prototype of smartphone running on Firefox OS presented at Mobile Monday

Telenor announced competition in design of Firefox OS applications and prizes up to EUR5,000

May 27, 2013 – All visitors of the Mobile Monday event which took place at the Cultural Centre “Grad” had an opportunity to see and test a prototype of a Firefox OS-based smartphone. Owing to cooperation with Mozilla, Telenor users will have an opportunity to use smartphones running on this OS by the end of the year.

Telenor has announced an all-day Developers’ Day workshop scheduled for Saturday, June 08, where all registered participants will undergo a training course in design of applications for Firefox OS. All interested parties will be able to register via Telenor website.

By end June, Telenor will publish a competition for the best Firefox OS application. The winner will receive 5,000 euros, whereas total prize fund for this competition is EUR12,000. The rules of the competition will be published on Telenor website, as well as majority of forums.

“An OS based on Firefox platform has huge potential owing to simple application design. That is why we organize the Developers’ Day and a competition, in order to encourage local designers to develop useful and important local application, and to raise awareness about the new OS. We expect phones running on Firefox platform to contribute to an increase in number of mobile Internet users in our market, having in mind that we plan to offer devices with advanced and locally important content at affordable prices,” explains Telenor Marketing Director Nemanja Žilović.

The aim of Mozilla and Telenor is to offer a functional and affordable smartphone which will provide the best mobile Internet experience to its users with Telenor Smart network.
