Mobile phone traffic established in Obrenovac downtown

May 18, 8:00 - Telenor’s field teams, in cooperation with the police, managed to transport by boat a power genereator to the base station at the top of a building in Obrenovac downtown late last night. As of 2am, the base station has been fully operational, significantly improving the network coverage in this part of the town.

In the conditions of difficulties with the network coverage in the areas hit by the floods, the free Internet service would result in a significant increase of data traffic and threaten functioning of the mobile network, including the toll free number 112 for rescue aid and evacuation of people in the flooded areas. Seamless functioning of the phone number 112 is of vital importance for rescue efforts in the affected areas.

The introduction of free SMS messages would additionally burden functioning of the mobile network, including the humanitarian phone 1003 – for aid to the population in the flooded areas. Funds raised in this manner will be used for providing necessary aid to the affected population and recovery from the damage caused by the floods.

Telenor support services are actively working on providing regular network coverage. For this purpose, close mutual cooperation between all mobile operators has been established.
