Kjell Morten Johnsen new head of Telenor Serbia

Belgrade, Serbia and Fornebu, Norway - March 11, 2009 – Kjell Morten Johnsen has been appointed new CEO of Telenor Serbia, replacing Stein-Erik Vellan, who has been nominated head of Telenor’s Indian initiative. Mr. Johnsen will take his new position as of March 16 this year.

Kjell Morten Johnsen (41) has headed Telenor Russia since 2006. Johnsen has broad experience from working in different industries internationally over the last 15 years. He has held several Senior Management and Board of Directors positions, including membership of the Board of Directors of VimpelCom, and of the Executive Board of the Association of European Businesses in Russia.

“It is with respect and enthusiasm that I take on the challenge to develop this superb company further, seeing what impressing work my predecessor, Stein-Erik Vellan has done. I know the Serbian customers have been used to demanding and getting top quality network and innovative services from Telenor Serbia. This will be my top priority to maintain and improve further. I will do my utmost to ensure that the management and employees of Telenor Serbia will continue to work to maintain the strong position Telenor has in the Serbian market,” said Kjell Morten Johnsen.

The new head of Telenor Serbia joined Telenor in 2000, as project Director of Telenor International Centre. He became Member of the Board of Directors of US listed Golden Telecom as of December 2003 and served as Chairman of the Executive Committee of that company from February 2004 until it was acquired by VimpelCom in February 2008. He was appointed Senior Vice President of Telenor Central & Eastern Europe when that unit was established in early 2006. He has been member of the Board of Directors of VimpelCom since June 2007. Johnsen speaks English, Russian, and German.

“I am glad that Kjell Morten Johnsen accepted this position and I wish him a warm welcome to Serbia. The past two and a half years in this country have been an enriching professional and personal experience for me. I thank all who helped me feel that way and encourage them to keep up the great work with Kjell at the helm“, said Stein-Erik Vellan, who has been nominated General Manager of India’s mobile provider Unitech Wireless. He is leaving Telenor Serbia after heading the company since its acquisition, in August 2006.

“We are very happy that Kjell Morten Johnsen, with his skills and experiences has accepted the position as CEO of Telenor Serbia and we wish him all the best in his new position. His highly appreciated efforts in Russia, has strongly contributed to an increased knowledge and improved impression of Telenor in Russia. I also take the opportunity to thank Stein-Erik Vellan for the magnificent job he has done in the development of the company. When he now leaves Serbia, it is because he has accepted even greater challenges, in taking our Indian initiative into a prosperous future,” said Jan Edvard Thygesen, Executive Vice President and Head of Telenor’s Central and East European operations.

Kjell Morten Johnsen takes over a company which, under Vellan, positioned itself as the country’s second-biggest mobile operator, providing top quality network and a full range of innovative services, and becoming a leader in marketing communications and corporate social responsibility.

Ole Bjørn Sjulstad will replace Kjell Morten Johnsen as head of Telenor Russia.
