Free Telenor Internet in Tašmajdan Park
Telenor has so far opened 27 Internet parks across Serbia, Belgrade is the city with the highest number of Internet parks in Europe
July 08, 2011 – Tašmajdan is the first park in Belgrade which has received free Telenor Internet this year. The Internet will be available from Beogradska Street to the vicinity of Tašmajdan swimming pool, while the whole park will be covered in a week. Owing to successful three-year cooperation of Telenor and the City Municipality, citizens can use the Internet for free in this park in the next two years.
The park at Tasmajdan has been opened today by Tatjana Pasic, Assistant Mayor of Belgrade, Miroslav Cuckovic, a member of the City Council, and Ana Krstic, External Communications Manager of Telenor.
“Belgrade is the leading European capital in regard to the number of the Internet parks. We have been working on beautifying Belgrade for several years now. Our wish is to provide citizens with an opportunity to be connected at any moment, have necessary information at disposal, without having to be in school, faculty, office or any other institution. They have that opportunity now when they sit in Tašmajdan Park, and Telenor has provided them with it for free in only a few steps,” says Tatjana Pasic, Assistant Mayor of Belgrade.
Telenor has prepared design solutions for the park and installed the equipment and it will be responsible for its maintenance.
“We are glad that Telenor has launched and implemented the initiative for the Internet availability to as many citizens as possible for three years now. In this manner, Belgrade obtains another feature of a real world metropolis. It is impossible to imagine life without the Internet today, and Telenor, together with the city authorities, strives to make it available to everyone,” Miroslav Cuckovic, a member of the City Assembly.
The City of Belgrade, supported by the Secretariat for Utilities and Housing Services, public utility company JKP “Zelenilo Beograd” and the Energy Administration, will be responsible for the lighting system in the park and maintenance of public areas.
In June 2008, Serbia got its first Internet Park in the history, when Telenor signal in Students Park provided the fast Internet outdoors. Since then, eight Internet parks in Belgrade and 27 across Serbia have been opened. Telenor’s 3G signal, which enables the fast Internet, reaches more than 250 cities and towns today.
