First social club for children and youth with disabilities
Telenor Foundation continues with cooperation with Centre for Quality Education
February 02, 2010 - Children and youth with disabilities from Kragujevac have obtained their first social club, within the “Vukašin Marković“ Special Primary and Secondary School in Kragujevac. Their peers from regular schools will join them in learning, gaining skills and playing.
It was officially opened by Telenor CEO Kjell-Morten Johnsen and highest official of the city administration of Kragujevac.
The club will be a place for organising creative workshops, enabling children to learn, socialise and have fun. It is completely renovated, equipped with PCs, and adjusted to needs of children with disabilities.
The “Club for Children and Youth” project is a response to needs of children and youth with disabilities, as well as other children in Kragujevac, and a result of cooperation between the Telenor Foundation and the Centre for Quality Education.
- Before the Club was established, a survey was conducted during long-standing cooperation of the Centre for Quality Education with local institutions in the area of social policy. The Club is a new mechanism and a channel of communication between children and youth attending the Special School and children and youth from the general population. It is aimed to contribute to reducing negative effects of segregation that these children and youth are exposed to, and increasing capacities and opportunities for more equal inclusion in the society in the future, says Jelena Čoko, Director of the Centre for Quality Education.
In addition to financial support, the Telenor Foundation has granted PC equipment, education and entertainment material and furniture to the Social Club, and helped in its renovation.
After the Social Club in the Special Rehabilitation and Orthopedic Prosthetics Hospital in Belgrade, this is the second joint project of the Telenor Foundation and the Centre for Quality Education. One of strategic objectives of the Telenor Foundation is support to socially endangered groups and establishment of the inclusive society. With its support to the establishment and functioning of the Club, Telenor continues to promote the significance of responsibility and care for the community where it operates.
