We have a clear aim, to raise our network to an even higher level.
Network renovation project started in mid-2010 and is one of the largest capital investments of Telenor since its arrival to the Serbian market. All vital network parts were renovated, from radio and transport network to core and service platforms, using the equipment of the best known world manufacturers, companies Huawei, Ericsson and Nera.
As of March 1, 2012 the whole Serbia is covered by Telenor Smart Network. Specifically, EDGE is available in the whole 2G network and the entire 3G network was fully upgraded so that within 3G signal coverage all users of our data services have access to extremely quick Internet which is provided by HSPA+ technology, as the latest step in the evolution towards 4G public mobile telephony systems.
After completed renovation, Telenor Smart Network is among the best quality ones in Europe.
Although theoretically maximum throughputs within Smart Network go up to 42 Mbps, in practice a user will not be able to achieve such speeds. The reasons are: influence of the surroundings in which the signal i spreading, distance of the mobile device from the base station antenna, signal weakening due to the impact of surrounding buildings, number of users connected to one base stations, etc. Look at the theoretical maximum and real speeds of data transmission for each of the technologies. Document downloading is now five times quicker than before, and users can also feel the change in the speed at which pages open, contents are posted on the Internet and connection quality. We want to introduce services in a way so that you can have a clear picture in the actual speeds you can achieve in practice, whereas the very quality and benefits of the Smart Network compared to competition were confirmed by an independent house which conducted measurements in10 towns of Vojvodina.
Users can check signal coverage by Smart Network in their place using the interactive coverage map. The map will be regularly updated as works progress. On that same map you can locate all Telenor shops and Wi-Fi internet parks.
Telenor Smart Network saves up to 30 percent of electrical power and CO2 emissions are greatly reduced. In this way Telenor is contributing to Serbia’s sustainable development, environmental protection and alleviating climate change and confirms that it is one of the leading companies when it comes to ecological management.
