Annual IT Globe Awards Granted - Telenor In Serbia Won Green Globe For Contribution To Environmental Protection
Belgrade, December 2, 2009 - The Green IT Globe, granted within annual awards of Mikro magazine for outstanding achievements in ICT, computers and telecommunications, has been granted to Telenor in Serbia, for its contribution to environmental protection.
The award has been rewarded for the mobile phone recycling campaign, where more than 76,000 old mobile phones, or eight tons of electronic material, were collected.
“The action which has focused public attention to ecology and recycling is Telenor’s old mobile phone recycling campaign. It has resulted in excellent achievements, and owing to intense communication, many people in Serbia have become aware of this information and, accordingly, started behaving more responsibly,” underlines the award ceremony host upon announcing a Telenor representative.
“Environmental protection and raising public awareness in regard to it has been one of the priorities from the launch of our operations in Serbia and a tradition in Telenor Group. Although we are not a large polluter and are not obliged to tackle this issue upon the law, we believe that we should do it, for ourselves and in line with the corporate values we follow, thus giving a signal to the local community. Next year, we will launch a detailed process of introducing the ISO 14001 standard, which will enable us to operate in accordance with global regulations related to environmental protection,” says Sandra Štajner, Chief Communications Officer of Telenor in Serbia.
