2G
GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) Our network is GSM standard based. GSM is a 2G international standard for digital mobile communications. It is applied in practically all the countries of the world and is adjusted to the voice transmission. Our 2G network corresponds to all world mobile telephony standards. You can see
here data transfer rates in 2G network. At this moment, Telenor GSM network covers almost 90% of the territory and 95% of population in Serbia.

EDGE (Enhanced Data for GSM Evolution)
EDGE represents advanced 2G network. It provides much greater throughput band and quicker transmission of data and larger capacities for mobile users. This service has been in commercial use since November 2004. At the end of renovation, the whole 2G network will support EDGE technology.

Maximum theoretic data transfer speed is over three times higher compared to GPRS and reaches 384 kbps on downlink and 88 kbps on uplink. Real throughputs of some 100 kbps on downlink and cca. 40 kbps on uplink provide basic Internet services, web browsing, e-mail and use of new applications.
3G
UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System)
UMTS is the official European standard for the implementation of 3G mobile telecommunications technologies. With GSM it is the widest spread system of public mobile telephony on the planet. Apart from voice and message transmission, this technology makes it possible to establish video calls and quick data transfers (broadband) with WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) access technology. See
here data transfer speeds in 3G network.
UMTS network was commercially launched on March 1, 2007, and at this moment covers 72,5% of the population.

HSPA+ (Evolved High Speed Packet Access)
HSPA+ technology represents the last step in the evolution towards 4G systems and provides currently largest throughputs in Telenor network with much greater capacity and reduced lag. It provides the best Internet experience, and ten times faster data transfer compared to the period before network renovation.
Whole Telenor 3G network supports HSPA+ 42 Mbps technology. Maximum theoretical data transfer speed is 42 Mbps on downlink and 5.76 Mbps on uplink. This will enable users to browse the Internet at real average speed between 10-20 Mbps and about 1 – 3 Mbps on uplink with modem for HSPA+ 42Mbps technology.

HSPA+ 42 technology and devices for it are in Telenor Smart Network is in commercial use as of June 2012.
