First Environment-Friendly Playground in Serbia

First environment-friendly playground in Serbia opened in Pančevo with the support of OSCE Mission support and Telenor Foundation

December 19, 2007 – Serbia’s first environment-friendly playground, suitable for children with disabilities, was opened today in the Serbian city of Pančevo in Strelište settlement on the corner of Veljka Vlahovića and Dušana Petrovića Streets.

The construction of the playground, built entirely with recycled materials, was supported by the OSCE Mission to Serbia, the Municipality of Pančevo, the Telenor Foundation and donors. It was designed to be accessible by children with disabilities and displays the UN-guaranteed rights of children on the flags posted around it. For the first time in Serbia, the playground features solar street lighting. The whole project serves as a best-practice example of a public/private partnership.
